December, 2023 at the ClubThe club was busy in December. Volunteers helped out with Salvation Army Kettles and Enchanted Forest. Over 93,000 people went through the entrance booth which was manned nightly from end of November until early January with volunteers from the club. Thankfully it was a mild winter at the entrance booth window this year. On December 19th the club held our annual Christmas Party luncheon at the Parktown which was filled with great food, music, games, gifts and fellowship. Co-Presidents Peggy and Betty Ann presented Honourary club memberships to Bob Devrome, John Hanlin and Ed Pek, who were all present at the Christmas luncheon. Brick Dedication Ceremony 2023On September 26, 2023, Grade 7 and 8 students from St. Anne Inquiry School joined the club at Rotary Park at the Peace Plaza for the club's 16th annual Brick Dedication Ceremony. The students prepared the program and researched this year's recipients, Joseph Rotblat and Pugwash Conferences. Thank you to Asit and Ila Sarkar for sponsoring this year's brick.  |

2023 Oskayak High School Scholarship RecipientsThe club would like to congratulate Sasha Perry (left) and Zakiryah (Zaki) Blackstar, this year's recipients of the club's Achievement Scholarships for furthering education. Both students graduated from Oskayak High School in June. Sasha is enrolled at the U of S taking Arts and Science with a focus on the arts. Zaki is currently registered at the U of S in the Indian Teacher Education Program (ITEP). Both recipients indicated the funds will likely go towards school books and supplies. The club wishes both Sasha and Zaki much success in their future studies .

2023 District Conference a SuccessThe 2023 ImaginAction District 5550 Conference took place on May 11, 12 and 13th at the Travelodge here in Saskatoon. The conference committee consisted of members from all the clubs and around 125 people attended the conference. The welcome reception on May 11th was the first time many of the Rotarians had seen District members since before Covid. Many Rotarians took time to enjoy some fun pictures at the photo booth. There are a few pictures of some of the Rotarians participating in the hands on projects on Friday morning. Registrants could choose from serving breakfast, cleaning Meewasin Trail, reading to kids and preparing personal notes to add into Food Bank food boxes. The Citizenship Ceremony was a enjoyed by many who have never witnessed a ceremony and to the new Canadians was something they have dreamed about for years. The presentation, speeches and supper at Wanuskewin along with the time to tour the renovated facility was a favorite of many. Saturday was all about Learning and Development, awards and ended off in a tribute to District Governor Fred Wright by many of the registrants wearing the "Kenora Dinner Jacket". $15,000 Food Bank DonationOn December 9th, members from the Rotary Clubs in Saskatoon met at Saskatoon Food Bank to present a cheque for $15,000. On Tuesday December 6th members of the club also went and volunteered building food boxes at the Food Bank warehouse. St. Frances Cree Bilingual School DonationWhen a new St. Frances Cree Bilingual School facility opens in 2024, it will have enhanced performing arts programming thanks to funding from Saskatoon Nutana Rotary Club. At an event held at the Park Town Hotel on September 6, the first of five $20,000 cheques was presented to Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools. 5 Club Membership VideoThe 5 Club Image Committee here in Saskatoon recently created a "Tribute" video. Oskayak Scholarship 2021-22 Each year the Nutana Rotary Club presents students from Oskayak High School with scholarships. One of this year`s recipients is Mikayla Littlepine who received $1000 for her continuing education. Mikayla is enrolled at the University of Saskatchewan and hoping to eventually go into dentistry. She will be using this money to purchase a new computer! Congratulations Mikayla.

MOU Signing with Greater Saskatoon Catholic SchoolsOn June 25, 2021 President Lorne Braithwaite from The Rotary Club of Saskatoon Nutana and Diane Boyko, Executive Board Chair from Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools, signed a MOU. The MOU sets out a new partnership between St. Frances Cree Bilingual School and the club for a 5 year term and a commitment of $100,000 dispersed over those 5 years. This collaboration will explore ways the partners may work together to create unique programs or program spaces within the new St. Frances Cree Bilingual School to support the processes of reconciliation, language and cultural revitalization, and community collaboration. The project components will focus on dramatic arts, music and performance and production technologies. The Arts fosters students' imagination, creativity and problem solving, enhancing students' ability to innovate and collaborate. A beautiful program was prepared with Elder, Shirley Arcand doing the prayer and Elmer Tootoosis drumming while Candace and Adam Merasty danced. A beautiful gift of a handmade blanket was presented to the club acknowledging this new collaboration.    |

Enchanted ForestFrom November 19th, 2020 to January 9th, 2021 members of our club (and a few friends) have volunteered to work the entrance booth at The Enchanted Forest. It is our 5th season there and we are happy to see many people taking part in this great fundraiser for The Zoo Foundation and The Hospital Foundation. With this being a safe family event, we are happy to see thousands of people out to view the lights and support the community. Our club is thankful to take part in such a worthwhile event in the community.  |

Food Bank Christmas AuctionsIn December we held on online auction through McDougall Auctions. Rotarians donated new and regifted items to raise money. On our last zoom Rotary meeting in December, board members purchased small gifts that were auctioned off to the members. These two auctions, together with further monetary donations from the members, plus our annual giving, allowed us to donate a total of $4,000 to the Saskatoon Food Bank. This is a significant gift in a great time of need!

Oskayak ScholarshipsIn 2020, our club gave out $1000 in scholarships to Oskayak students for the 2019-2020 year. Pictured below are Serenity Obey who received a $500 scholarship for continuing education and Zachary Whitehawk who received a $250 merit scholarship. Lauren Kennedy was our final $250 merit scholarship recipient. (no picture). Congratulations to all three of you.

19,000 Visit Saskatoon Rotary RibFest 2019An estimated 19,000 patrons attended the seventh annual Saskatoon Rotary RibFest, held August 2-5, 2019 at Diefenbaker Park in Saskatoon. RibFest is organized by the Rotary Club of Saskatoon Nutana. RibFest Chair Boris Kishchuk thanked the ribbers, other vendors, entertainers, volunteers, sponsors and all the people who attended the event for making RibFest a great success again this year. Boss Hog's BBQ of London, Ont. won the Peoples' Choice award while Gator BBQ of Port Dover, Ont. won the Judges' Choice award. The judges on the panel were Angela Wallman, Lindsay Wallman, Chris Carr, Grant Giesbrecht and Kevin Hobbs. The 50/50 prize totalled $9,237.50 (total amount collected was $18,475). The winning ticket number of RF2-095966 was held by Craig Lindsay of Saskatoon. The door prize of a dinner and show for two at Dakota Dunes Casino was won by Curtis Isackson of Martensville. RibFest offered four days of delicious ribs barbecued by some of Canada’s top ribbers, live entertainment, plus a kids’ fun area, food and craft vendors, beer garden, 50/50 draw and more. 19,000 Visit Saskatoon Rotary RibFestAn estimated 19,000 patrons attended the sixth annual Saskatoon Rotary RibFest, held August 3-6 at Diefenbaker Park in Saskatoon. The total was down slightly from the record of 21,000 set in 2015. RibFest is organized by the Rotary Club of Saskatoon Nutana. RibFest Chair Boris Kishchuk thanked the ribbers, other vendors, entertainers, volunteers, sponsors and all the people who attended the event for making RibFest a great success again this year. “The crowds were fantastic, especially considering that we had some rain on Saturday," said Kishchuk. "It shows how much people love coming to RibFest." Prairie Smoke and Spice of Regina won the Peoples' Choice award while Smoke and Bones BBQ of Vancouver won the Judges' Choice award. The judges on the panel were Grant Devine, Chantal Devine, Darwin Hodges, Jeri Hodges, Tom Kishchuk and Lynne MacGillivray. The 50/50 prize totalled $7,555. WET FINISH TO ROTARY RIVER DUCK DERBY - Presented by Conexus Credit Union
This years Duck Derby took place on Sunday, July 15 during the River Lights Festival. Unfortunately rain cancelled most of the days events other than the JetSki competition and the duck derby and with a fast river it was a quick race. All winners are posted below and will also be notified by phone.
A big thank you to our main sponsor, Conexus Credit Union for their continued support. This years derby raised $ 4,000.00 and all proceeds will be used to support local Rotary youth programs. Thank you to Shearwater Tours for helping us collect the ducks on the river and to The Fishing Hole for providing fishing nets used to scoop the ducks from the river. Over $ 35,000.00 has been raised over the 9 years that we have run the duck derby to support our Rotary Youth programs. HAITI FUNDRAISING DINNER A SUCCESS !!!!On June 1st, 275 people gathered at the Hilton Garden Inn to support the Rotary Club of Saskatoon Nutana's intiative to reconstruct the Greffin School in Port Au Prince, Haiti that was demolished during the devastating earthquake that struck the island in January 2010. Our special guest speaker was Senator Pamela Wallin who shared her experiences as a journalist, a public servant and growing up in Saskatchewan. Ian Van Norman, a former member of Nutana Rotary and our partner on this project thru his own charitable foundation gave a picture presentation on the reconstruction of the school and their future plans. Peter Eyvindson, another former club member entertained us with an inspriring childrens' story. |

2012 ROTARY RIVER DUCK DERBY - Presented by Conexus Credit Union
The Rotary Club of Saskatoon Nutana will be holding their Rotary River Duck Derby on Sunday, July 15 in conjuction with the River Lights Festival being held that weekend at River Landing. 1000 rubber ducks will be dropped from the top of the Idywyld Freeway Bridge at approximately 4pm on Sunday and float towards the finish line in front of the Traffic Bridge. The first 10 ducks that cross the finish line will win a total of $ 2000.00 with a first prize of $ 500.00.
Conexus Credit Union is the presenting sponsor, tickets are $ 5.00 each and are available at both Saskatoon branches (Circle Drive East and at Preston & 8th St. E.) Tickets can also be purchased from Nutana Rotary members or at our booth that will be setup at River Landing during the River Lights Festival taking place from July 13 to 15. All proceeds from the duck derby support Nutana Rotary's local youth projects that include; Oskayak H.S. schorlarships, adventure and leadership camps and the Restotative Action Program in Saskatoon High Schools. |

Dinner to Raise Funds for Greffin School in HaitiThe Rotary Club of Saskatoon Nutana will sponsor a fundraising dinner on June 1 to raise money for Greffin School near Port au Prince, Haiti. Guess Who's Coming to DinnerNutana Rotarians particpated in 4 dinners in January; thanks to Scott's and Blackburn's who hosted on the 14 and MacGillivray's and Williams who hosted on the 21. THE SCARIEST CLUB MEETING EVER!!!!!Nutana Rotarians got into the Halloween spirit by dressing in their favorite costume. We were greeted & scared at the door by these two characters, GhostFace & RedFace which everyone agreed had the best costumes. Stan "Father" Garchinski had his tickle trunk with him and handed out numerous hats to many and for some it was an improvement. Lots of fun was had as each table got to draw their best pumpkin face, voted for the best costume, sang some Halloween songs, told their favorite halloween story and we even raised a few dollars for "End Polio". Thanks to Betty-Ann, Karen, Eileen, Dorothy, Walt and Stan for organizing a fun and memorable event. Nutana Rotary Club Supports School Reconstruction in HaitiNutana Rotary Club Supports School Reconstruction in HaitiThe Rotary Club of Saskatoon Nutana is working with the Van Norman Charitable Foundation in the reconstruction of an elementary school in Haiti that was destroyed during the earthquake that occurred in January 2010. Nutana Rotary has committed to fund the reconstruction of the school in the amount of $100,000 over the next five years. The Van Norman Charitable Foundation has agreed to match Rotary’s contribution by funding the costs of school children that attend the “Rotary”school. Governments publicly fund only about ten percent of elementary schools in Haiti. The reconstructed school is located on the outskirts of Port au Prince and consists of four classroom, a kitchen, cafeteria and office areas. The school reconstruction was carried out by Free Methodist Church volunteers from Canada and the United States working with local construction workers. Reconstruction started in the fall of 2010 and was completed in the spring of 2011. Teaching staff at the school is recruited and monitored by Compassion Canada. The school is open to all children and there are no restrictions on school attendance.

welcome Eva Vida from the Rotary Club of Winnipeg as our District Governor for 2011-2012. Kalyan Banerjee, of the Rotary Club of Vapi, Gujarat, India, is Rotary's 101st president. This year the RI President is asking Rotarians to Reach Within to Embrace Humanity during the 2011-12 Rotary year. "In order to achieve anything in this world, a person has to use all the resources he can draw on. And the only place to start is with ourselves and within ourselves."
RI President Kalyan believes that Rotary's strengths include its ability to attract leaders from different vocations around the world as well as its role in promoting peace. "My goal is for Rotary to become the preferred organization for today's generation to join and participate in to make the world better, safer and happier" he said in a recent Interview.

On January 31, 2020 the Rotary Club of Saskatoon Nutana University, a satellite club of the Rotary Club of Saskatoon Nutana, officially began operations. The first 12 members of the satellite club were inducted. A 13th member could not attend and will be inducted at a later date. All the members are graduate students at the University of Saskatchewan and come from 10 different countries. The club meets on the second and fourth Fridays of each month, beginning at 12:15 p.m., at the GSA Commons (formerly the College of Emmanuel and St.Chad) on the University of Saskatchewan Campus..jpg)
